About the Bennett Art Advocacy Program Through this two-weekend program, students will learn about how they can use their own artistic talent as a form of advocacy. They will learn about the importance of advocacy, the legal system and how they can use creative writing, spoken word and visual art to create changes in their own communities! Program Outcomes for Students:
Students will be able to explain the importance of advocacy work
Students will be able to get a better understanding of the legal system
Students will be able to show how creative writing, poetry and visual art can be used to advocate for an important social cause
Program Outcomes for Families:
Parents/Guardians will be able learn about student success tips for middle schoolers
Parents/Guardians will be able to understand viable ways to fund their child's college education
Parents/Guardians will be able to understand support services on college campus from student affairs professionals
Parents/Guardians will be able to get their college questions answered from college representatives from UC, CSU and community college level
Parents/Guardians will have an opportunity to ask legal questions to a former city attorney
About the Bennett Family Association The mission of the Bennett Family Association is to bring community programs to middle school students in South Los Angeles and Southeast San Diego in an effort to increase their knowledge about social justice so they can create change in their surrounding communities.
